UK, EdR & Messer break ground for new central residence hall

A ground breaking was held at the University of Kentucky’s campus on April 17 for a 601-bed residence hall. It will be the first residence to be built on campus since 2005 and the first building in what officials anticipate will be a multi-phase project.

This project is valued at $25.8 million and is made possible through a public/private partnership between the University of Kentucky and Education Trust Realty (EdR). Upon approval of Phase II of the project, UK would be among the first major educational institutions to turn over its entire housing stock to a private real estate company.

Lexington-based Messer Construction Co. and Sherman Carter Barnart were selected as the general contractor and architect of record for the first phase of the project. Fall 2013 is the projected completion date. Sustainability features include geothermal heating and cooling and it will be LEED Silver targeted.
