The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet office serves as the new headquarters for this group (about 1,300 people). The office building and attached circulation towers enclose approximately 450,000 sf. The building is flanked on either side by two precast parking structures. Most of the building interior space is dedicated for office use but other areas include a conference center, auditorium, cafeteria, a partial basement, two utility tunnels, a mechanical penthouse, and numerous windows for natural light. Two six-level parking structures are on either end of the building which contains about 1,500 parking places.
This project was awarded the Associated General Contractors’ (AGC) 2004 “Build Kentucky” award.
Design/Bid/Build General Contractor
The Design/Bid/Build delivery method is a traditional way to purchase construction. The construction partner in this delivery method is known as a general contractor. Designers prepare 100% complete plans and specifications before the bids are received from the general contractor. The bids are based on plans and specifications and any changes are administered by change order. Success is contingent on complete and accurate bid documents.
