Messer Presented 'Profiles in Leadership' Award by Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis

(May 12, 2009)  Indianapolis, Ind. – Messer Construction Co. has been named the recipient of the 2009 “Profiles in Leadership” award, the top honor from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI). The award is given annually to individuals or organizations whose support of the BGCI will make a long-lasting impact and further the mission of BGCI.

When presenting the award, James R. “Rick” Whitten, BGCI executive director, said, “Messer believes in making a difference in the community by giving their time, talent, energy and treasure. Tim Steigerwald of Messer co-chairs our resource development committee and serves as second vice president for the board of directors. Messer’s talented staff donated time, materials and expertise for our proposal for the Super Bowl Legacy project. And Messer’s monetary donations are more than generous.”

With the Super Bowl being played in Indianapolis in 2012, the Legacy Project created an opportunity for a new facility for BGCI. Messer assisted in the development of the proposal to bring the facility into the BGCI organization.

“Messer is passionate about supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis because the organization positively impacts so many people every day,” said Tim Steigerwald, vice president for Messer. “We believe that investing in our communities makes them better places to live, work, and raise our families. As an employee-owned company, this is a priority for us because we see firsthand the many benefits of supporting community organizations.”

The award was presented at the annual BGCI recognition banquet on April 21, attended by BGCI board members, club members, and special guests such as Indianapolis Mayor Gregory A. Ballard.

BGCI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
