Messer Helps Launch New Group to Support Frist Center
(May 08, 2009)
Nashville, Tenn. – Messer Construction Co. has helped establish the Friends of Architecture group for ongoing support of the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The new group’s first contribution is a sponsorship of the exhibition titled Museums in the 21st Century: Concepts, Projects, Buildings, which will open May 29 and remain on view until August 23.
The exhibition is a survey of the latest museum architecture in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia. Eighteen unique designs are represented by models, sketches, computer renderings, photographs, and animation, all providing insight to the creative processes of many of the world’s major architectural firms.
Messer is the founding member of the Friends of Architecture group which was established earlier this year to enhance corporate awareness and support for the Frist Center. Messer has a special interest in the facility: in 1933, the company was responsible for the construction of the historic Nashville Post Office – the original building that now houses the Frist Center. One of Nashville's great historic landmarks, the building displays both of the most distinctive architectural styles of the period, classicism and Art Deco, and in 1984 was listed officially on the National Register of Historic Places.
“We’re pleased to be the founding member of the Friends of Architecture in support of the Frist Center, a true Nashville treasure,” said Dan France, vice president of Messer Construction. “Messer is proud of its roots here in Nashville, and the Frist Center building is an important part of our history, so we appreciate this opportunity to work together.”
The Frist Center for the Visual Arts, located at 919 Broadway in downtown Nashville, is an art exhibition center dedicated to presenting the finest visual art from local, regional, U.S. and international sources in a program of changing exhibitions.
