Messer Construction Wins Two Dayton Builder’s Exchange Awards for Work in Tech Town
(January 29, 2010)
(Dayton, OH) January 29, 2010 – Messer Construction Co. announced today that the Dayton Creative Technology Accelerator in Tech Town won the Green Building Award from the Dayton Builder’s Exchange and that Robert Emmerich, project manager for new construction in Messer’s Dayton office, was named the winner of the Project Management Award for managing the construction process. The awards were presented to Messer during the seventh annual “Team Building Night” held by the Builders Exchange of Dayton and the Subcontractors Association of Western Ohio.
The Dayton Creative Technology Accelerator is the first building to be completed in Tech Town, the premier technology-oriented district in Dayton. The Accelerator is fully occupied and features many high-tech amenities while incorporating sustainable concepts such as a geothermal well and white roof system to minimize building operating costs and ensuring energy efficiency. LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council is currently being pursued.
Rob Emmerich led the construction of the Creative Technology Accelerator – a 42,000 sq. ft., three-story multi-tenant office building. Emmerich deployed his expertise with lean construction techniques to keep the project on schedule and within budget. The recycling goal, to minimize waste during construction, was 50% but the construction team surpassed 75% under Emmerich’s leadership.
“I congratulate Rob and the entire Messer team involved in the construction of the Creative Technology Accelerator,” said Allen Begley, Messer's Dayton-based vice president. “We look forward to deepening our relationships with CityWide Development, The Architectural Group and Heapy Engineering as the development of Tech Town continues to move forward.”
Messer celebrated 10 years in the Dayton market in 2009. The Dayton office employs nearly 100 people who work with dozens of local subcontractors to complete construction projects worth millions of dollars annually, ranking as the area’s second-largest commercial contractor.
Projects built in Dayton by Messer include the Schuster Performing Arts Center, the RecPlex student recreation center at the University of Dayton in addition to the ArtStreet complex, and Marycrest Dormitory. The CareSource corporate headquarters, the initial building at the city's Tech Town complex, the Montgomery County Juvenile Justice Center, and the Main Street parking structure are among projects in downtown Dayton.
