Messer Receives "Project of the Year" Award from ICACI

(April 23, 2009)  Indianapolis, Ind. – Messer Construction Co. has been named the recipient of the 2009 “Project of the Year” award, the top recognition from the Indiana Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ICACI) for its work on the Indiana University Cyber Infrastructure Building (CIB) Data Center.

The ICACI’s annual awards program recognizes excellence in concrete projects in the region. In addition to the ICACI’s overall award, the Messer entry had earlier received the “Outstanding Achievement in Concrete” award in the Institutional project category.

The Data Center is an 82,000-square-foot facility for Indiana University’s supercomputer, information technology infrastructure, and mission-critical systems. The structure used concrete for exterior walls, a structural roof deck, a precast façade, and exterior hardscapes.

Messer handled more than 9,000 cubic yards of poured in place concrete, 400 cubic yards of precast concrete, and several thousand lineal feet of concrete encased underground ductbanks. The project team maintained the original project schedule and met all quality requirements despite significant challenges from the weather along with an extremely tight concrete schedule.

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) is a nonprofit technical and educational society organized in 1904 and is one of the world’s leading authorities on concrete technology. ACI is a forum for the discussion of all matters related to concrete and development of solutions to problems. The office of the Indiana Chapter is in Indianapolis.
