Messer Recognized by Knox County Supplier Diversity Program

(December 30, 2008)  Knoxville, Tenn. – Messer Construction Co. was recently recognized by Knox County for its leadership and support of the inaugural class of the Supplier Diversity Mentor-Protégé Program.

The program was launched in December 2007 by the county’s Purchasing Division to match small and minority-owned business owners with large company owners and/or managers who would help the protégé company improve its ability to successfully compete for contracting opportunities. Mentors could help their protégé companies with either technical or business management support.

Messer mentored two businesses through the program: Turman Enterprises, a certified minority general contractor, and Shanklin & Sons Carpet, Inc., a certified minority flooring contractor. Messer provided subcontracting work and helped guide the companies through the construction project bidding and management process.

“Messer is committed to a leadership role in creating opportunities for economic inclusion,” said Messer vice president Andy Lorenz. “By establishing strategic relationships and dedicating resources and capital, we can support and grow the capacity within our community’s minority and women-owned business enterprises.”
