Economic Inclusion
We recognize the importance of diverse minds, experience, cultures and businesses. And, we're committed to creating an environment that attracts and supports talented people, without regard to race, creed or ethnicity.
We have three critical components to the success of Economic Inclusion:
• Supplier Diversity
• Workforce Diversity
• Community Engagement
Our Commitment: Messer is committed to leadership in creating economic opportunities for all segments of our regional communities. We believe sustainable change requires strategic relationships and a commitment of resources and capital. Messer's objective is to grow the resources and capacity within our communities' minority-owned business enterprises (MBEs) and woman-owned business enterprises (WBEs).
Supplier Diversity
Developing strategic relationships with high-performing certified Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) and Women Business Enterprises (WBE) creates a competitive advantage that will better serve our customers. Messer's objective is to grow the resources and capacity within our communities' MBEs and WBEs. In fiscal year 2008, more than $89,000,000, or 13% of Messer's total outside purchases, were spent with certified M/WBEs. Our goal is to have participation on every project.
Are you a Subcontractor who wishes to work with Messer?
Our 3-step process enables us to identify high-performance, certified MBEs and WBEs:
Step 1: Certification
MBE/WBEs who are interested in doing business with Messer must first be certified. We accept certifications from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) and its regional chapters, the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and its regional chapters as well as any federal, municipal, or state certifications.
For additional information, please click here for a list of approved MBE and WBE certifying agencies.
Step 2: Subcontactor Vendor Form
Next, our Subcontractor Vendor Form must be completed. This form may be requested from the Economic Inclusion Department (contact information below) or fill out the form online.
Copies of your certifications, completed subcontractor vendor forms, and any other pertinent materials should be mailed to Cindy Lyons at the contact information below.
Step 3: Meet with Us
The key to the relationship is finding the proper "fit" - where the capabilities and expertise of the subconctractor - meet Messer's need and expectations. Our staff asesses the prospective business relationship to create the best solution for Messer, the subcontractor and the owner-client.
Therefore, Messer encourages potential subcontractors to schedule a personal meeting to discuss specific areas of expertise. This allows Messer's EI department to identify key opportunities and individuals to provide the best opportunity to be successful business partners. To schedule an appointment, please contact:

Workforce Diversity
Messer works to recruit and retain people from diverse backgrounds with the goal of reflecting the demographics of the communities we serve. To sustain growth and continue to compete in the ever-changing business environment, our workforce must continue to reflect the diversity of the communities in which we live and work. Acheiving and encouraging diversity is a core value and the right thing to do for the sucess of our company.
Therefore, we are committed to creating an environment where we celebrate our accomplishments and differences together, where every member of our communities, regardless of race, creed, or ethnicity can aspire to use his or her diverse minds, expertise, culture and creativity to create value for others.
Community Engagement
We are also committed to building the communities where we live and work; that support includes professional organizations and community service groups that serve minorities and women. Whether striving for supplier diversity on every project, recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce or helping an organization with the Messer Foundation, we work to lead the construction industry in being a good corporate neighbor.
