Employee Development Programs
Construction is dynamic, requiring multiple roles and areas of responsibility to deliver safe, high-quality work while using resources efficiently. That’s why employee learning and development is essential. Through continuous learning, our teams stay prepared to make informed decisions and reinforce our purpose: building better lives for our customers, communities and each other.
Strengthening skills at every stage
Part of Messer’s mission is to create an environment where professional growth drives company success. We support this through a range of training and development programs for employees—from entry level to executive leadership.
Our professional development programs are offered year-round through both online and instructor-led formats, with many courses taught by Messer subject matter experts. We also invest in leadership development programs to help employees grow into the next generation of leaders.
Below is a sample of the in-house courses, programs and trainings Messer offers.
Orientation
From day one, employees are set up for success through a comprehensive onboarding experience. First-day orientation provides a warm welcome to new employees while covering employment essentials. Company orientation builds on this foundation by introducing employees to other new hires across the company, Messer's culture, and the support resources available to help employees grow and thrive throughout their careers.
Performance Management
Employees are supported through a structured performance management process that includes annual goal planning, mid-year performance reviews and annual performance reviews. Together, these conversations help employees and managers align on expectations, discuss progress, recognize accomplishments and support continued growth and development.
Industry Training
Messer's Department of Labor certified Carpenter and Laborer Apprenticeship Programs provide hands-on learning opportunities. Messer also offers an in-house Construction Industry Technician training for employees across the company to gain a foundational understanding of construction processes and the industry, while Builders of the Future I and II help employees strengthen the skills needed for successful project execution.
Leadership Programs
Leadership programs are taught by Messer experts. These programs provide employees with opportunities to enhance their skills at every level, from foundational leadership principles to advanced competencies in project and people management. Employees also build skills in effectively managing responsibilities, adapting to evolving priorities, and leading with greater impact.
Development Resources
We support employees both personally and professionally through resources that promote health and well-being. From mental health and financial wellness support to Social Style training that strengthens communication and collaboration, and tuition reimbursement opportunities that help employees pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees, our employees are empowered to thrive at work and beyond.

“Continuous learning and development is important for career growth because it provides the foundation to be successful in every step of a person's career. It also accelerates the rate of growth because it gives people clear guidance on the proven tools that drive company and individual success.”
“Learning and development allows for a better income and a way of life. It also gives you a feeling of accomplishment when you get to pass your knowledge and experience on to the next generation.”
“I think learning and development is huge when it comes to growing your career. For me, the more I understand about different parts of the industry—or even how other teams work—the better I can do my job.”
