Tom’s career with Messer began in 1977 shortly after graduating with a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He joined the company as a field engineer. After 28 years of advancing in his career, Messer elected him to become president and chief operating officer in January 2005. Five years later, he was elected chief executive officer. Tom retired from Messer in late 2019.
Tom is a registered professional engineer in Ohio. In the spring of 2012, he was honored by the University of Kentucky College of Engineering with a Construction Management Founders Society Lifetime Achievement Award. Two years later, Tom received a Lifetime Achievement Award by Cincinnati’s Spirit of Construction Foundation.
He is past board chair of the Greater Cincinnati YMCA and People Working Cooperatively, served on the board of directors for Cincinnati Art Museum and served as a board member for the Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT).
Tom is a board member for the Playhouse in the Park, serves on the US Bank Cincinnati Advisory Board, is a board member for Garney Construction Company and is a member of the Cincinnati Commercial Club.
