Charlotte Douglas International Airport East Terminal Renovation and Expansion
This portion of the terminal is the only route that connects the flow of traffic to the main hub and other connections. It must remain open to passengers and personnel at all times. Messer overcame this challenge by creating an airport-wide communication protocol using Lean daily methods. Included in this protocol are IT, vendors, facilities, security, operations, the City of Charlotte, and American Airlines.
Using BIM coordination, we were able to address several unique challenges within this project. The existing baggage conveyor had three feet of clearance and sloped upward, leaving concern about space above being sufficient. Our Virtual Design team was able to model it in and make sure the appropriate clearance existed.
