Features and Facts

In the period that the team was scheduled to pour a slab on grade, the ground was frozen 28" deep in  some places. With these extreme conditions, concrete blankets would not keep the subgrade from freezing. Our team rented a large party tent and installed propane heaters to thaw the subgrade. The team was able to pour and properly cure the slab while outside temperatures remained below freezing.

The U.S. Department of Defense force protection measures required blast resistant windows and doors. For sustainability purposes, the complex is heated and cooled with a geothermal system that includes vertical stack heat pumps. This project received the AGC Build Kentucky Award.
