Messer Earns National Safety Recognition for Fifth Year

April 21, 2026

Messer earned second place in the Associated General Contractors of America’s Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA), competing in the 1.5 million work hours division. 2026 marks the fifth time Messer has been named a finalist for this prestigious recognition, notably finishing first in 2021. This means when you work with Messer, you are working with one of the safest firms in the nation, year after year.

The CSEAs recognize companies that go beyond incident rates and demonstrate excellence in safety culture, training, innovation and risk management.

Senior Vice President of Operations Services Rob Verst said this achievement reinforces Messer’s focus on Zero Injury and our leadership in safety.

“It continues to be an honor competing against the top best-in-class construction firms across the country. It’s been affirmed that we are on the right track, focusing on the right things and leading safety in the industry,” Verst said.

The recognition highlights the many areas where Messer continues to lead and excel, including:

  • A strong Zero Injury culture.

  • Trade partner safety mentoring that strengthens safety across every jobsite.

  • The use of Lean Daily Management and Gemba walks applied to safety.

  • A focused effort on soft tissue injury reduction and the Fit for Duty program.

  • A comprehensive approach to physical and mental well-being, including being named one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Mental Well-Being in 2025 by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group.

Safety Vice President Kyle McDonald said the award speaks to the behaviors and mindset our teams bring day in and day out to keeping one another safe.

“This award reinforces the strength of our Zero Injury culture and the focus our teams bring to safety through planning, communication, looking out for each other and continuously improving how we identify and manage risk,” McDonald said. “It represents our unwavering commitment to sending every person home safe every day and all the things our employees do to lead that effort.”

McDonald said the award is a meaningful achievement that represents a collective effort across our company.

“This is worth celebrating because our sustained recognition for safety excellence, on a national scale, is a team achievement—and it truly sets Messer apart,” he said.
