Description

Renovation of a 111,000-square-foot, four-story academic building, including the transformation of an open courtyard into a full-basement atrium with a new skylight and two elevators.

The project features a modern TV studio, a 68-person multifunctional space for teaching and events, a dedicated Humanities Center event space, and a four-story atrium that creates visual and physical connectivity throughout the building.

Work included extensive structural and foundation modifications, with the facility fully gutted to its concrete frame and rebuilt with new interior layouts, finishes, glazing, and MEP systems.

Features

  • Renovation of the existing structure required the design‑build team to implement efficient solutions for significant foundation repairs, including 400 linear feet of underpinning, new shear walls, and reinforcement of existing beams and slabs.
  • Out team leveraged BIM to resolve MEP coordination challenges created by tall ceiling design, reducing costs and increasing schedule reliability prior to construction.
  • This building ties into the Western Campus Geothermal plant, enabling a projected 50% reduction in energy consumption while significantly enhancing comfort and climate control.
  • Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award winner.
