Description

The Courier-Journal was in need of a new printing facility to replace their previous equipment which dated back to 1946. The new printing press allowed production to increase to about 75,000 copies per hour at top speed, enabling writers to have the luxury of later deadlines for catching breaking news.

 

Features

  • 130,000 sf production plant.
  • This project involved equipment vendors from around the world who supplied items such as sorters, conveyor systems, inserters and controls among others.
  • There were three presses that weigh approximately 2,100 tons (4.2 million pounds), which sit atop the press table.
  • The concrete press table is the length of a football field, 18 feet wide, and 3 feet thick.
  • There is also an automatic storage retrieval system that brings the huge rolls of paper to create the “web” throughout the presses.
